As your skin is exposed to external stressors such as sun exposure, pollution, and strong chemicals, or even seasonal weather changes, the tone and texture may be affected. After the age of twenty, our skin also begins to produce one percent less collagen each year, and the process of skin cell renewal slows. Sometimes our skin may look drier, more discoloured, and lackluster, so it needs to be rejuvenated. Microneedling at Toronto’s Avebelle Cosmetic Clinic is a treatment that can improve many common skin-related conditions. This safe and effective procedure improves the look and feel of the skin by helping it rebuild collagen.

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a skin rejuvenation treatment that involves pricking the skin with tiny, sterilized needles attached to a pen-like tool. The purpose of this is to cause micro-injuries. This triggers the healing process of the skin, causing it to become more volumized and youthful looking as the deeper layer of the skin rebuilds itself. The processes encourage the production of collagen, elastin, and healing factors. The collagen that is created fills in wrinkles and other imperfections. This treatment is also an ideal method for depositing topical products into the skin. It doesn’t involve the use of heat: therefore, unlike lasers, this procedure is safe for all skin tones.
The goal is to ensure that your skin is in as calm a state as possible prior to this treatment. Patients will need to avoid certain medications, such as ones that are used for acne treatment and avoid using any harsh topical products like retinols before having microneedling treatments. Avoid over-exfoliating or over-drying your skin for up to seven days following microneedling. Patients who have active cold sores, sunburns, dermatitis, or other skin conditions in the treatment area should not have microneedling.
Each session lasts just twenty to forty-five minutes on average, depending on the size of the areas being treated. A numbing cream is applied to the face first so that the patient won’t experience any discomfort then the microneedling pen is moved across the face. Once the tiny channels have been opened, uniquely blended serums will be applied and penetrate deep into the skin.
As this procedure is not invasive, there is typically little to no recovery time. Patients can resume their normal activities right away if they’re comfortable doing so. Be gentle with your skin – avoid exposing it to high heat, sweating heavily, or washing it for the rest of the day. The most common side effects patients experience are mild redness, skin irritation, shedding, small marks and dry skin that resolve on their own as the skin heals.
Immediately after microneedling, your skin will look plumper and glowing, but it may take longer for the full results to show, so this shouldn’t be thought of as a quick fix. The skin’s quality improves as it becomes healthier. The results from microneedling gradually appear within a few weeks and may last for up to two years. Everyone’s skin needs are different, and you may notice excellent results after just one session but for some, it may be necessary to continue maintenance treatments once a month. After treatment, the skin will be more sensitive to sunlight so wearing broad-spectrum SPF will be critical.
Along with microneedling, other skin rejuvenation treatments are available from Avebelle Cosmetic Clinic such as photofacial, a laser-based treatment that fades discoloration for a clearer tone, and spider vein removal for reducing spider veins. Hydrating Facial, Power Peel, and Restylane Skinboosters treatments improve the general tone and texture to make skin brighter and healthier. Neurotoxins like Botox® and injectable fillers treat moderate to severe wrinkles on the face and neck. Fillers can also enhance facial contours by adding volume. These treatments are complementary to microneedling.
